In 1965, the notion of mixing rock music - what was still, in those days, referred to as rock & roll - for stereo was problematic at best most of the music in the field that had come up before 1963 or so wasn't sophisticated or complex enough to make two-channel playback seem essential, or even a terribly "natural" fit technically, any more than stereo seemed appropriate for blues recordings. Tambourine Man album - playable on any CD machine - is notable as the first official release of the original's album's monaural mix on CD, and the first wide-distribution appearance in any form of the mono version since the mid-'60s. This hybrid SACD/CD edition of the Byrds' Mr.
